THE SHORE CHURCH IS A WESTSIDE CAMPUS THAT HAS BECOME AN AUTONOMOUS CHURCH
“It seems good to us and the Holy Spirit.” – Acts 15:28
In 2012, the Shore Church was planted as a Westside Church campus on the North Shore. As a campus of Westside we loved embedding ourselves on the North Shore for the North Shore. It was only during the fall of 2016 that God began to show us he was calling the North Shore campus to be a stand alone church.
HOW IT HAPPENED
During that fall of 2016, the elders of Westside began discussing the question, “Is the North Shore campus being hindered in its growth (i.e. numbers, buy-in, ministry opportunities, ownership, outreach/evangelism, etc.) by being a campus?”. At that time, this was simply a question with no intent of moving in the direction of being a stand-alone church. This led to a year of the elders praying and pursuing the question again and again, with the goal of discerning if this was where God was leading. After many months, including a summer of prayer and fasting, the elders were unanimous in their belief that this was indeed a step of faith that God was calling us to take. We then shared this vision and asked the church to pray and fast and vote. It was affirmed with a 97% affirmation.
With much support, love and help, Westside Church commissioned and planted the Shore Church on Easter Sunday, April 1, 2018!
THE CONVICTIONS THAT DROVE US
Becoming the Shore Church would bring a greater focus and contextualization as well as greater ownership and mission for the people. Our original hope with planting a campus was to provide greater contextual ministry, so a transition of this nature clearly aligns with the original hopes for planting the North Shore campus. Lastly, as a stand alone we could see the opportunity for people’s growth, maturity, and spiritual dependency.
WE ARE ABOUT PLANTING CHURCHES
Like Westside, The Shore Church is a church plant committed to church planting, with the goal to keep raising up and training leaders who will go and plant more gospel-centred, Jesus-preaching churches throughout Metro Vancouver. We believe the local church is the primary means through which God has chosen to reach out to a lost and broken world.
