In My Place
We are Barabbas // Matthew 27:11-31
In remaining silent before Pilate Jesus was obeying the Father. Instead of justifying himself against the false accusations, He was justifying us. In this sermon we look at the doctrine of justification. Additionally we come to see that we are Barabbas, guilty criminals released because Jesus took our place. Like Barabbas would have seen, it was my cross Jesus bore. Those are my nails Jesus received in his hands. That is my death that Jesus died.
In the Place of Peter // Failure and Betrayal (Matthew 26:69-27:10)
In this sermon we unpack the agonies of both Peter and Judas' sin and denial and how both respond to the grief of it. Only one makes it to the cross. Jesus gives Peter restoration, a new identity and glorious purpose because of who He is not who Peter thought he was.
When we begin to understand that we’re are saved not based on our goodness our ability to keep promises but rather on Jesus, then we have hope !
