What is a Discipleship Group?
A D-group, is a gender based group of individuals (3-5) that gathers, cares for, encourages, challenges, and builds one another up into the good works they each have been given.
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
– Ephesians 2:10
What is the vision of Discipleship Groups?
To make disciples of Jesus by way of interpersonal relationships. When we spend time reading God’s Word, praying, memorizing Scripture, reminding each other of the grace of Jesus, and encouraging one another in our daily lives (Hebrews 3:13) we are on the track for growth.
How do Discipleship Groups do this?
- Step 1 – HIGHLIGHT your daily reading of the Bible – after reading 1-2 chapters of Scripture, HIGHLIGHT the verses that speaks to you. This might require reading it over a few times, but what we want to encourage you to see is the main point in the context of the passage you are reading.
- Step 2 – EXPLAIN – Engage with the passage and wrestle with the main point. You can do this y asking the questions; who, why, what, and how?
- Step 3 – APPLY – Consider how to apply the passage in real life. How has it convicted you, comforted you, and what is the call?
- Step 4 – RESPONSE – Pray the application over your life. This might mean you take some time confessing, thanking God for the comfort of grace, and asking God to help you as you respond to Jesus’s invitation to change.
We call the above our H.E.A.R. journal. Each D-Group in the hour they meet together will share their H.E.A.R. journal with one another and keep each other accountable through the week. This is what Jesus has invited us to when it comes to making disciples.
Each group will also spend time confessing sin with one another and also encouraging one another with Bible memory work.
